With only a few weeks left in the year, now is the time to “move in” to your new planner and do some prep work. Whether you’ve been using a particular planner for years, trying a new layout/system or adding a new planner to your lineup, spending some time getting set up now will pay off all year long.

While everyone has their own style – you do you – laying a strong foundation can really help you get off that roller coaster of overwhelm and focus on what matters. We have put together some helpful tips to get your planner ready for the year ahead.

Start with the basics

◾️Fill in all set dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, days off, school schedules and work related events/travel to make sure nothing gets missed.

◾️Write down all upcoming commitments that have scheduled times and dates so you are not searching through papers and emails looking for information.

◾️Plan for vacation time to guarantee you will be rested and recharged.

◾️Set up routines – morning, evening, wellness and self care – to make your days less hectic and more intentional.

Beyond the basics

◾️Write a bucket list (either for the year or each season) and schedule those things in your planner. Make sure to include things that fill your cup along the way.

◾️Set goals (smart, heart or whatever kind works) and identify what you want to achieve in the new year.  Then plan out action items in your planner that work towards achieving them. Celebrate your milestones with rewards and make adjustments when necessary.

◾️Create new habits or break bad ones with tracking systems that record your progress and help you stay motivated and accountable.

◾️Carve out time for what matters most. Look for white spaces or pockets of time in your schedule where you can be present in the things that are important to you. Whether you are spending time with a loved one, enjoying a hobby or hustling a side project, find dedicated time without distractions to make those things happen.

Let’s go 2020 – we got this!
