Goals, intentions and resolutions, oh my! It’s a new year and a new decade for figuring out what you want to do with your life, no pressure – right?
While most of us feel like it’s the perfect time for a fresh start, there really is no magic time for making and achieving your goals. Don’t let the month of January make you feel overwhelmed and anxious about setting goals and giving your life a complete overhaul. Positive changes in your lifestyle can happen whenever you are ready to make them happen. Focus on making intentional progress and give yourself some grace. Remember it’s not about changing who you are – it about becoming a better version of who you are.
So whether your goal is climbing Mount Everest or climbing out of bed earlier to get to the gym, we all need a plan and some extra help along the way. Here are some actionable tips to help you stay on track:
Experts will say having a reason stronger than your excuses is what keeps you going or “knowing your why”. While this is ultra important and meaningful when it comes to your goals, some of us still need a little extra push to get us going.
▪️ Create a playlist of songs that gets you pumped and play it when you feel like you are in a slump
▪️ Listen to a weekly or daily podcast that gives you ideas and inspiration related to your goals
▪️ Download an inspirational book or buy the actual book that will help you become more knowledgeable so you can make better choices
The “Small Stuff”
When it comes to achieving your goals, the magic is in the small steps you take everyday. There is no quick fix or fast track to the finish line. You need to make a plan and focus on your progress in order to propel yourself to finish line.
▪️ Rule number one – write it down and make a plan! In a planner, of course. Even just a dedicated notebook will do. Planning out the steps (roadmap) and tracking your results will signal to your brain that you are serious.
▪️ Break large goals down into actionable tasks throughout the year. The build up over time will lead to the ultimate reward.
▪️ Document your progress with pictures or trackers. Visually seeing your accomplishments will keep you inspired.
Teamwork makes the dream work! While there is nothing like IRL connections, technology can help make things easier these days when you need some extra support.
▪️ Find an accountability buddy. Having that extra person along for the ride always makes things easier. Ask a friend or family member, with similar intentions, to join you in your journey or simply hold you accountable to your goals.
▪️ Connect with other like-minded goal setters through an online course, mastermind, group or challenge.
▪️ Share your goals publicly on social media or with friends. This will keep you accountable to show up for yourself and for others.
There is power in positivity. Surround yourself with positive affirmations and visual reminders to help keep you inspired and manifesting those goals.
▪️ Choose a word of the year. Having a word to use as a guide will help with making decisions and staying on track
▪️ Create a vision board to visually represent all the things you want to manifest in your life
▪️ Practice gratitude and trust the universe will deliver what you put out into the world.
Don’t forget there is magic in the progress. Appreciate the wins, celebrate them, make tweaks and keep going!
