Planner-preneur - Rae & Tay
We are so excited to share our next “Planner-preneur” with you! In this ongoing series, we share an inside look at people from our community that have poured all their creativity and inspiration into a “planner-related” entrepreneurial venture. This time, we are talking to Rae & Tay.
After being a part of the planner community and working on PR teams together, Rachel & Shawnte became fast friends and planner besties. During 2020 (lockdown), they had the opportunity to spend more time planning, chatting and engaging with the community on social media. One of the things they would always talk about was - how do you organize your stickers? A “planner problem” that many of us struggle with in the community. Most storage options seem to be a mix up of various pieces that have been put together but don’t really meet the unique needs of a planner.
Fast forward a year, they decided to launch a business that would provide sticker organization that was functional, easy to use, able to expand with their stash and cute enough to post on IG. Utilizing Rachel’s knack for design and Shawnte’s abilities for operations and finance, Rae & Tay was born in March of 2022. It's a unique system created by planners for planners.
We talked with Rae & Tay all about starting a business with your planner bestie, authentic business advice, what they have learned and the friendship bond they have after meeting through the community. Listen to our chat below:
STICKER ORGANIZATION
Knowing that everyone has a different planning and organization style, Rae & Tay wanted their system to be flexible and customizable. Together, they created a collection of binders and inserts that made organizing, updating and moving things around easy. The binders have three rings, lay flat are available in neutral colors and coordinating patterns with foil details.
They didn't stop there. As planners, they know sticker sheets often have unique sizes so they took it one step further by creating custom molds for the insert sleeves that would fit specific sizes. For example, their “Twosday” sleeves, “Washi” sleeves and “Quarter” sleeves each designed to fit those popular size sticker sheets.
WHAT’S NEXT
They have learned so many lessons, grown their business and received amazing feedback from the community since launch. Recently, they released an exclusive, “Minimal” Sticker Album as part of the Sadie’s Stickers Advent Calendar which is a discbound system that will now be available in the shop. Also, they are deep in design and production for dividers to help organize sheets more efficiently as well as new colorways for their binders.
For the last two years, Rachel and Shawnte have been working hard at their business but have not yet met face to face. They will meet up for the first time in February 2023 at an upcoming planner conference.
