CLUE: she went all in on decorative planning…

ANSWER: Sonya @slsplans

Sonya began her planning journey around 2020 as a purely functional planner but shortly after switched to decorative planning once she discovered the community on Facebook. After stumbling across a group called, Happy Planning Tips & Tricks, she quickly fell in love with stickers, watching PWM videos on YouTube and scrolling Instagram. Now, decorating and putting stickers in her planners has become not only a creative outlet for her but also a form of self care. Getting lost in creating decorative spreads is her favorite thing!

She also has a deep appreciation for art and enjoys expressing her own artistic flair through planning and sharing her Before The Pen spreads on social media. When setting up her planners, Sonya visually maps out the week and decides which stickers she wants to use before selecting matching boxes and washi tape. She uses wax paper to lay out a draft of the spread first and then places stickers on the paper before writing. While stickers are of course her favorite planning essential, some of her other essential tools include Undue, Tombow adhesive tape and correction tape, packs of decorative paper, my Firbon paper cutter, crafting scissors, washi cutter, a Cricket, decorative washi, interchangeable disks for my planners, tweezers for sticker placement and Xacto knife.

Currently, Sonya’s planner stack includes six Happy Planners which she refers to daily (morning and evening).  She uses a Big Vertical planner as my catch-all; Classic Vertical for creative journaling; Mini Vertical to track my pet's meds; Skinny Classic for on-the-go; Dashboard for social media planning and a Horizontal for gratitude. Although, Sonya loves Happy Planner products and stickers, she prefers supporting small shops and especially loves using hand-drawn stickers in her planners.
